To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), Principal Investigators Dr. Leung Chi Hin and Dr. Li King Yue Philbert are leading the "Forge ahead from the Legacy: EdUHK at Ten!" (FLET) initiative. Running from September 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026, the project formalizes the university’s institutional evolution and strategic commitment to educational innovation. The project encompasses two flagship milestones to drive public engagement and knowledge transfer. The first is a strategic title sponsorship of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra’s concert, "The Hero's Quest," which integrates student experiential learning with institutional fundraising. The second milestone is a nine-hour Guinness World Record singing marathon of "In Praise of Teachers" scheduled for September 6, 2026, at Pacific Place. This public performance relies on the wide distribution of flexible music scores to mobilize schools and community choirs, effectively promoting teaching excellence on an international scale.

This project will publish a volume that compiles the key research, thought leadership, and artistic insights generated by the International Conference on One Belt One Road Arts and Culture 2025 (ICOAC25), scheduled for September 13–14, 2025, at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Organized by the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, The Education University of Hong Kong and supported by the Belt and Road Office of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, ICOAC25 provides a premier platform for international exchange, cultural dialogue, and innovation in arts, heritage, and cultural policy.
This book will serve as an enduring record and critical reflection on the evolving dynamics of arts and culture across the historic and contemporary Silk Road, with an emphasis on fostering international understanding and cooperation.

The theme song "In Praise of Teachers", composed by Mr. Lau Chun-wah in 1997, was created to celebrate the invaluable contributions of teachers who dedicate their lives to nurturing and educating students. The heartfelt lyrics, “Who opened up my mind and taught me to think,” reflect the composer’s belief in the profound impact of good teaching on shaping young minds.
In 2014, Dr. Leung Chi-hin orchestrated the piece for S.A.T.B. choir, clarinet, string quintet, and piano, re-harmonizing it with an expressive harmonic language to enhance its artistic appeal while making it more accessible to schools. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has since featured the piece in various events including Installation Ceremony of the 5th and 6th President to celebrate and empower teachers, aligning with the university’s mission and historical dedication to education.
As we approach 2025, the 28th anniversary of In Praise of Teachers, Principal Lau Chun-wah has generously granted EdUHK permission to use the piece freely for non-profit events. This project aims to promote the song’s timeless message of gratitude and support for educators, especially in today’s challenging world.

Listening to music is a unique experience we can rarely encounter in daily life. There are so much we can communicate directly and spontaneously in a music event. It is an interactive moment of cultural and emotional exchange. With the new NFT Musicking model and “web3” technology, the creativity and communication skills of the students will be enhanced through exploring different aspects of musical emotions. Five commissioned pieces will be composed by distinguish composers and student-composers from different countries. They will be recorded, rehearsed, and performed with “web3” technology. Interface technology will be used to collect affective responses from the audience. These responses will be shown visually and audibly correspond with the music to form a cross-medium collaboration by four stakeholder groups (i.e., composers, performers, art technicians, and audience).
This project is the sequel of the Faculty Funding Support project, Non-Fungible Token Musicking (NFTM). It is in a learner-centered project-based teaching and learning design, including a series of teaching and learning activities across seven courses from undergraduate level to postgraduate level and professional development programmes for in-service music peers. The project comprises five phases. Phase One, Preparation and Development, begins from team building, project planning, to internal “web3” training for colleagues. Phase Two, Pilot Implementation, contains seminars in four topics covering Meta-composition, Meta-performance, “web3” application, and security and ethics issues in Metaverse for pre-service teachers from the pilot group. The effectiveness of the VTL activities and the new NFT Musicking model will be evaluated for refinement of the project. Phase Three, Full-scale Implementation, includes the complete implementation of the refined project for participants from the selected courses. Concurrent with the VTL activities, class observation will be conducted for further analysis. Phase Four, Evidence Data Collection and Evaluation, includes survey of students’ creativity by using Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT), focus group interview, and analysis of the students’ Meta-musicking projects. The effectiveness and impact of the project will be evaluated. Phase Five, Dissemination and Publication, concludes the TDG project by sharing the project findings with sister universities and partnership associations, and preparing for publications and project grants.
This project is expected to bring impacts on immersive music education. With the help of “web3” technology, it uplifts the degree of collaboration between four correlative stakeholders in the immersive music production without geographic restriction. It also enriches participants’ virtual teaching and learning experience, creativity, communication skills, and global perspectives.

This neurocognitive study evaluates the impact of learning music through acoustic instrumental ensemble versus tablet ensemble on music and cognitive abilities. Leveraging technology, the project employs "e-Orch", a learning platform with an app and cloud-based software, to make music education more accessible. It aims to compare the cognitive, social, and emotional benefits of traditional music learning with tablet-based learning, filling the existing research gap. Preliminary pilot studies have suggested positive student engagement and teacher willingness. The study will have significant implications for music education, potentially broadening students' cognitive abilities and understanding of music in different contexts.

e-Orch Innovative Music Project involves the invention of a Grid Notation System, specifically designed for tablet music performance and creation. The user-friendly system uses an app, e-Orch, which has helped promote music education in over 50 schools, reaching more than 2000 individuals. The project, which ran from July 2019 to June 2021, combined research, patenting, commercialisation, and pedagogy to significantly impact the field of music education.

Non-Fungible Token (NFT), Metaverse, and immersive education are trending terms. Although technology is frequently used in music notation and stereo audio recording, however, there is no professional training of "web3" technologies on their application, pedagogy, security, and ethics issues in music education. Additionally, the definition of work in the modern world is still being developed. The original composition (i.e., music score) in the modern day is just a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, which has no method to give the PDF a unique identity. On the other hand, the decision-making of performers interpretation in music activities has always been ignored. There is no systematic way to document the artistic decision of their music performance. Their creative contribution is undervalued
This project is expected to bring impacts on immersive music education. Innovative application of "web3" technologies, immersive listening experience, and new composition and performance practices will be explored. It includes a series of five phases of learner-centred teaching and learning activities across seven music courses and three music performance groups under the Music Skills Enhancement Scheme hosted by the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts. A user manual of NFT Musicking will be created for the continuous development of the project.

The Community of Practice project is a response to the University’s Strategic Plan 2016-2025. One of the primary missions of the strategic plan is to ‘prepare our students to become educators and professionals who can integrate theory and practice, and who are creative, innovative, …’. The proposed CoP will gather academic and teaching colleagues who have the vision and passion to nurture our students with creative thinking. Through engagement in professional dialogues, sharing of experience and critical reviews, members of the CoP will develop pedagogies and instructional designs collectively that can effectively engage students in creative thinking. The pedagogies leveraged from the CoP will be shared, tested, documented and disseminated in the University so as to create a shared culture that values creative thinking skills and the teaching of them to students. Through increasing infusion and improvement of teaching of creative thinking skills in courses and dissemination of the pedagogies in different channels, the CoP will contribute to better performance of students in the GILO ‘Creative Thinking Skills’ of our University.
