Project

The Art of Creative Research Exhibition, NIE, Singapore (CCA Visual Arts Research Impact Enhancement Initiative project)
Department of Cultural and Creative Arts,
Visual Arts Research Impact Enhancement Initiative

This exhibition is a component of the Visual Arts Research Impact Enhancement Initiative project, funded by the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the Education University of Hong Kong, enabled via a collaboration with the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. It is part of an initiative to share the research work of Visual Arts staff with a wider international audience, both within and beyond the realm of academia.
It is the first event in a collaboration that grew from a discourse with international colleagues about art practice as academic research, its nature and beneficial impact.
With an exciting and important international focus “The Art of Creative Research” showcases a range of works by academic staff from six influential Universities in the fields of art and design and art education.
The project explores practice-based research in a range of media, by fifteen staff from the Education University of Hong Kong and The National Institute of Education (NTU) Singapore, and from The Arts University Bournemouth, the Royal College of Art, Homerton College (University of Cambridge), and University College London, in the UK. The exhibition showcases and celebrates individual creative works, in a range of media, and additionally explores the impact that this creative practice has on enhancing the value of the student experience, on building connections between educational institutions, the creative industries, and local communities. The exhibitors share their work and aspects of their simultaneous multi-identities as Artists, Designers, Academic Researchers, Scholars, Educators and Teachers.
The exhibition at The Gallery, The National Institute of Education (NTU), Singapore, opens on 6th Jan 2023 until 31st Jan 2023
Opening Hours 11:00 am - 6:00pm
The dedicated associated website supports the physical exhibition, providing an informative collection of interviews with the exhibitors and other related project information and links.

Mask Wearing Behaviors and Attitudes: Cultural and Individual Influences
In the current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, different public norms regarding mask wearing have emerged across cultures. The public health efficacy of mask-wearing depends on more than the physical efficacy of masks themselves: Instead, it depends on social behavior—compliance and acceptance. How can we improve the social efficacy of masks for public health? Specifically, what facilitates mask acceptance in USA and Hong Kong, what discourages it, and how can we learn from one another to encourage more enthusiastic public acceptance and positive interpersonal/social effects (and therefore public health effects)?

Translating New Territories. International Visual and Interdisciplinary Arts project
Production of new artworks including paintings, drawings and prints, exploring gestural marks and colour saturation, typically from the field of painterly abstraction, juxtaposed with thematic figuration, and how these can co-exist to create new and original expressive opportunities and visual experiences, alongside co-curation of artworks by other international video artists for exhibition and screening via significant international venues. Project deliverables include international public exhibitions, academic presentations and printed documentary bookwork
