Feasibility and Utility Test of CANDID - Cantonese Speech Protocol Investigating the Neurodegenerative Dysarthria in Cantonese Speakers with Idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease (PD) Who are Treated by Bilateral Sub-Thalamic Deep-Brain Stimulation (STN-DBS)
The project will test the feasibility and utility of a Cantonese speech protocol to appraise neurodegenerative dysarthria in Cantonese speakers with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) who are treated by bilateral sub-thalamic deep-brain stimulation (STN-DBS). The collaborating organization is Queen Elizabeth Hospital ( Hospital Authority Kowloon Central Cluster).

Common Core Set for Primary Progressive Aphasia (COSPPA)
An International project that explore and substantiate therapy outcome common core set for people with primary progressive aphasia. Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a neurodegenerative impairment associated with brain atrophy and characterised by the gradual loss of speech and language functions. PPA occurs to people age from 55 onwards. Currently, speech therapy is the intervention to alleviate primary progressive aphasia. The aim of the current project is to draw international consensus on therapy outcomes and formulate common core set that can be cultural, and linguistic appropriate.

Chinese Language Assessment in Primary Progressive Aphasia - Cantonese (CLAP-C)
The grant is international joint-collaboration research grant awarded to Dr. Lorinda Kwan-Chen on a three year project (2022 -2025) to develop Chinese speech and language assessment tool and intervention of a rare language-based dementia called primary progressive aphasia. This project lends its foundation through international and local academic and medical practitioners. The collaborators include internationally the Memory and Ageing Centre of the Neurology Department of the University of California, San Francisco (USA) and locally the geriatric psychiatrists, neurologists, geriatricians of the Hospital Authority, and neurologists and radiologists of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. This project is a continuation of its pioneer since 2018 and results have been published in high impact journals such as Neurology, and Neurocase.

Supporting home communication of children with stroke parents
This project provides resources to support home communication of children with stroke parents and with aphasia. Two resources were generated from this project: a story book based on family communication barrier between children and their stroke parents; and an augmentative/alternative communication book to help non-verbal stroke parents to communicate with their children. The project aims to fill the current gap in speech therapy rendered to communication-impaired, middle-age stroke patients to maintain their family role as parents of older children and adolescence.
