Cultivating Resilience and Empathy: Life and Death Education through Chinese Classics and Literature This Knowledge Transfer (KT) project aims to cultivate students’ resilience, empathy, and reflective capacity through life and death education grounded in Chinese classics and literature. Drawing inspiration from the growing societal interest in life-and-death themes in Hong Kong since the pandemic, the project integrates traditional Chinese perspectives on living and mortality with contemporary relevance for students in the digital and AI era. Anchored in the Education Bureau’s Chinese Language Curriculum Guides (S1–S6), which emphasize literature’s role in nurturing empathy, compassion, and moral development, this project seeks to strengthen the affective and cultural dimensions of language learning. Building upon the university’s existing course, CLE1221, it will expand and enrich teaching resources by developing new instructional materials, public lectures, and multimedia content that connect classical texts with modern experiences of life, loss, and meaning. Ultimately, the project will produce a set of accessible teaching packages and digital learning resources that support curriculum enhancement and community outreach. Through the interdisciplinary exploration of Chinese literature, the initiative hopes to deepen understanding of the value of life, foster respect for human experience, and inspire a culture of emotional resilience and empathy within the university and the broader society.
