Effectiveness of Stress Mindset Training in Cultivating Resilience in Chinese Young Adults : A Randomized Control Trial
Psychological resilience (hereinafter referred to as resilience) is critical for maintaining a healthy mental condition. The Stress Mindset Theory suggested that everyone had different mindsets (either enhancing or debilitating), which influenced the interpretation of stress and selection of coping styles under adversities. Cortisol, an important physiological marker of resilience, was moderated by different types of mindsets. Stress mindsets could be moderated by watching either enhancing or debilitating videos. However, the effect of mindset training has never been tested in Chinese population, and the effect of mindset training on resilience is largely unknown. The current proposed study aims to examine the effectiveness of the intervention of stress mindsets and the association with different operationally defined resilience in Chinese young adults. Three hundred young adults will be recruited (50% SIE, 50% SID) and randomly assigned to the SIE video group or the control group. Their resilience levels, stress mindsets as well as saliva cortisol levels will be measured before and after the mindset training, as well as after one month follow-up. Findings from this study could inform the effectiveness of stress mindset intervention for educators and health caretakers in loal settings.
