Projects
Reimagining Landscapes of Care: A Stakeholder-Driven Framework for Equitable Planning in Hong Kong
This research employs a mixed-methods approach to develop a comprehensive planning framework for Hong Kong’s elderly day care system. The methodology consists of three stages. First, a systematic review examines existing planning approaches, current standards, and international experiences, complemented by a comprehensive stakeholder mapping to identify key actors, their roles, and relationships in the elderly care planning system. Second, Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis evaluates the spatial distribution and supply-demand patterns of DEs/DCUs, quantifying the mismatches between service provision and demographic needs in land-scarce contexts. Third, building upon these spatial findings, Q methodology structured around the Seven A’s Framework engages different stakeholders to interpret the identified challenges and prioritise potential solutions, particularly addressing the complex trade-offs in facility planning. The integration of these spatial and stakeholder analyses will inform the development of an evidence-based planning framework to guide future DE/DCU allocation decisions.

Ageing Playfully: Public Spaces, Playfulness, and Well-being for Older Adults in Densely Populated Cities
This study asserts the critical role of play in mitigating ageing-related challenges, advocating for its integration into urban planning processes to bolster ageing-in-place initiatives. The primary aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between play, public space, and older adult wellbeing in densely populated urban contexts, so as to establish a groundwork for subsequent grant applications aimed at enhancing urban livability for older populations.

Nature-Based Solutions for Promoting Environmental Stewardship in Public Open Spaces: Adapting to Emerging Activity Trends
This research project aims to investigate the impact of emerging activity trends on public open space usage and develops an innovative nature-based solutions (NBS) framework that promote environmental stewardship and community well-being for creating inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban environments. The findings will contribute to the development of more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban environments.
