Prior to joining the University, Professor Amy Ha was a Professor at the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with an outstanding record in teaching, research, and administration in higher education. Her research interests span a range of areas, including sports pedagogy, integration of information technology in quality physical education, family-based physical activity interventions, fundamental movement skills, and physical literacy. Professor Ha has secured numerous competitive research grants, including the University Grants Committee’s Research Impact Fund and General Research Fund.
Professor Ha has played a prominent role in the international academic community, having served as a long-standing Board Member of the International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP). Currently, she is the Chief Investigator (Hong Kong) of the SUNRISE study, a global surveillance project on the 24-hour movement behaviours of preschool-aged children, involving over 70 countries. Professor Ha has also led several large-scale projects which have generated significant societal impact. For example, she led the “Fun to Move@JC” project from 2017 to 2023, which was funded and co-founded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. This initiative benefitted over 50,000 students, parents and teachers across more than 100 schools in Hong Kong.
She is also the Founder and President of the Hong Kong Rope Skipping Association, China. Under her leadership, the association has experienced rapid growth in the sport, both in community engagement and in achieving remarkable results at international competitions.

Physical Education - Active Body and Cognition (ABC): Empowering Students to More Physical Activity and Better Cognition Using a Self-determination Theory-informed Intervention The funded project is a pilot trial to examine the feasibility and appropriateness of a school-based physical activity intervention to be disseminated in secondary schools. The project applies innovative elements, including pre- and in-service teacher co-design and co-teaching, and the adoption of closing circle elements in physical education and extra-curricular physical activity classes. Feasibility will be examined through qualitative interviews with students, in-service teachers, and pre-service teachers who participated in the trial.
